Thanks to LCA leonberger owners, the public is given the opportunity to learn about our wonderful breed through these Meet the Breed events.
From the AKC website (http://www.akc.org/meet_the_breeds/): AKC Meet the Breeds® is a family-friendly event designed to allow breed experts to share their knowledge of dogs with the general public. Each Breed will be highlighted in its own decorated booth. National Breed Club experts will be on hand with adult dogs and puppies that you can meet and play with. This event is an excellent way to learn about the distinct features and special characteristics of a breed, and is a perfect opportunity to gather information to help determine if a certain breed is right for your family.

This booth was large being 10' x 20'. Tables held six giant 3 x 4 Cardboard panels which contained 8 x 10 photos of Leos in different activities. A local artist painted an 8' x 20' canvas backdrop of the town square in Leonberg, Germany which was rented for the show. Two more tables ran across the front booth which contained various LCA information pamphlets and the biggest hit of the booth - a huge wooden picnic basket full of all the fur collected from one brushing of Connie's Leo Georgia during a semiannual molt. Every person that came by the booth stopped to put their hands in the basket to feel the fur. Many asked if it was ever spun and made into items. They were informed that yes it was and that various things (quilts, mittens, scarves, etc) were made from the fur and then sold to raise money for Leo rescue groups. Other very popular items at the booth were lifesize heavy cardboard figures of a German boy and girl holding hands in full costume with the faces cut out. Many stopped to pose behind the figures with friends or with a dog sticking its head out of one side and the person out of the other. Connie was assisted in the booth by Don James, Jean Boggie, Nick and Bobbie Chase with leos: Finnegas, Georgia, Ryker, Glitz, April and Della
Michele Cohen and Suzie Kovalsky served as Co Chairs for MTB in New York this year. Highest praise to everyone who volunteers to work in the Meet the Breed booths as it is a wonderful opportunity to educate the public about Leos.
